Bywell is situated next to the river Tyne, and is about a mile from Stocksfield. Although small in terms of its population, Bywell was once an important settlement, and many historic buildings remain, albeit most of the village is on private land.
Bywell lacks any shops, but the amenities of Stocksfield are only a 20 minute walk away, including shops and a train station.
In recent years, a number of major events have been held at Bywell, including the Northumberland County Show, and the Great Classic Show. Sadly, many of these events have now been cancelled for 2020, due to the recent virus outbreak.
