Recent History

Even in recent years, Hexham Abbey continues to evolve.

New choir stalls and a circular altar are added at the Crossing in 1992, followed by the creation of St Wilfrid’s Chapel to the east end of the North Chancel aisle in 1996.

In time for the Millennium in 2000, two new bells named Peace and Millennium are cast by the Whitechapel Bell Foundry, giving Hexham Abbey a total of 10 bells.
